What is Learning to live well in Wynyard?
Learning to live well in Wynyard is a joint effort between GlobalNet Academy and Live Well Tasmania. The course is designed to help with employment opportunities in the Wynyard area and/or with opportunities with Live Well Tasmania in the future. Students will also learn about other skills that will help in all areas of life. The course will be run out of.. Those successfully completing the course may gain up to eight units from the AHC30716 Certificate III in Horticulture.
What will Learning to live well in Wynyard teach?
The course will teach
- How to work safely when working with plants, garden beds and displays, chemicals and growing medias
- Techniques for constructing and maintaining plant displays and looking after nursery plants
- How to control a range of plant pests and diseases using chemical and non chemical control methods
- How to improve soils for both garden and turf areas
- How to provide information about plants and their culture to clients

About the units
The units in these skill sets have been taken from the Certificate III in Horticulture (AHC30716) qualification. This qualification is for those people looking to work as Horticulturists, Irrigation Service Technicians, Horticulture Consultants ,Sustainable Horticulture Promotional Officers and Interior Plantscapers. The qualification provides a general vocational outcome in amenity horticulture.

There are 10 units in this course. If you successfully complete these assessments, you will receive a statement of attainment for the following units:
- AHCWHS301 – Contribute to work health and safety processes
- AHCNSY303 – Install and maintain plant displays
- AHCPCM302 – Provide information on plants and their culture
- AHCNSY301 – Maintain nursery plants
- AHCPMG301 – Control weeds
- AHCPMG302 – Control plant pests, diseases and disorders
- AHCSOL301 – Prepare growing media
- AHCSOL303 – Implement soil improvements for garden and turf areas

Who is it suited for?
This course is perfect for those people who want to work in the amenity horticulture industry, work in small scale gardening and vegetable production or want to work or start their own business. Please apply if you
- Want to commence a career in a horticultural or a specialty horticultural industry.
- Want to start a horticulturally based business.
- You work in the horticulture industry but do not have formal qualifications
- Would like more experience in working in the horticulture industry

Can I get recognition for knowledge and skills I already have?
Yes. If you believe you have a previously acquired skills, either through work and/or life experience or through formal training, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Do I have to answer all the questions?

How to use the online form
Our online enrolment form is linked to our student management system. This means that once you have completed the form and pressed “register” it may take up to 60 seconds to “talk” to our student system and register you.
